Is there a way to make a cologne last longer?
Maybe a place to spray or adding more alchohol? I use C.O. Bigelow bay rum and I love the way it smells but it just doesn't last very long. after a couple hours you can't smell it at all unless I'm sweating, and then only a little. I've tested other brands of bay rum that have lasted longer, but I don't like the way they smell as much. Bigelow smells perfect. Any advice or am I just boned? Maybe something that smells exactly the same but lasts longer?

The best would be a small 'travel' vial and you can put some more once the initial application has worn out after several hours.
Exactly the same but last longer is impossible. To smell exactly the same it has to be the exact same composition. Something 'close enough' that last longer is of course possible, but then it depends on what is 'close enough' for you.Last edited by gugi; 07-26-2010 at 04:03 AM.

Colognes, which have low concentrations of aromatic compounds or EO's, have a subtle fragrance. This subtle fragrance may seem to “disappear” quite quickly. Also skin type may effect the fleeting.
Maybe try layering(using an aftershave and cologne with the same fragrance.
Also as stated above, you may try a spritz on your t-shirt to see if that helps.

I did a fragrance profiling event at Penhaligons a while back and one thing I learned there was that certain fragrances last longer on certain skin types.
Some people might put on a cologne and it will still be smellable at the end of the day. Others will find it wears off very fast. Its all down to skin type.
Also, scents mature differently on different people. One of the colognes I tried at that evening didnt age well on me at all, but smelled great on my other half. And dont smell them in the bottle, always smell them on your skin. Scents smell different in the bottle to on the skin, and nice in the bottle doesnt always equate to nice on the skin..!
The other thing to consider is that your nose stops smelling things eventually, once it gets used to the smell.
This is how you get people in nightclubs who smell like they been marinated in their perfume/ cologne! They put some on, then couldnt smell it half an hour later once their nose was used to the smell. So they put some more on. Then their mates came round for a couple of pre-beers or something, and by the time they go out they cant smell it again so they stick some more on.
Then they arrive at the club, thinking they have a subtle scent on, and everyone else nearby is having their eyebrows bleached free of charge..!
I remember a holiday when I was younger where we were in a farm cottage, and there were cows nearby. When we arrived it was like "Dear Lord, no one light a match or we're all dead..." but after a few hours you couldnt smell it. And we only noticed it again when we went out and came back again a few hours later...
And it was an interesting smell! For the Discworld fans amongst us, we did nickname it The Smell in honour of Foul 'Ole Ron.

@Utopian: lulz
@Everyone else: I know it gets weaker to the wearer but I've actually asked my friends at different points in the day. Seems to be done after about an hour. Although, I will admit that I hadn't tried the testers on myself, just that piece of paper they give you.
