Thread: Anybody used Shave Secret shave oil?

I'm not so much interested in using this as a shave oil, but more so as a pre shave. Anybody used it this way?

I'm in the middle of a trial with a shave cream called "Stephans stay smooth ". It's an old school brushless shave cream that was recommended by my barber to use as a pre-shave. It contains lots of good stuff like cocoa butter, shea butter, and aloe vera. You can actually use it as a shave cream as the name implies, but I am experimenting with using it just as a pre-treatment. So far, so good. It does seem to leave my face soft and more slippery. The down side is that if it gets into your brush, the mineral oil in it will inhibit lathering so you have to wash the brush out thoroughly with soap and start again, which can be a chore.

Shave Secret is in my rotation of pre-shave oils and creams and I like it as a pre-shave oil. The pre-shave oils and creams that I use are Truefitt & Hill Pre-Shave Oil, Shave Secret and Proraso Pre-Shave Cream. I will also use the same lather that I will be shaving with as a pre-shave cream.

When I use pre-shave oils or creams, I apply them first when I am getting ready for a shave. Once I am ready to shave, I do a hot towel treatment. This removes most of the oil or cream from my face before I apply my lather. I also find that the hot towel will help to remove any oil that is still on my hands that normal hand washing did not remove before I pick up my razor.

I don't use pre-shave oils and creams everyday, but when I do I find them enjoyable and helpful. I find them especially helpful on days when I shave without first taking a shower.

'Tried it. 'Can't tell any diff. in the shave. I'll re-try periodically to see if that changes as experience grows, but so far I wouldn't spend money on it.

Yes, I've used shavesecret as a preshave oil. It works fine that way, and it lasts a lot longer (if you use the couple drops recommended) than it's small size would suggest. I often take it as a preshave oil on trips, cause it's so compact. At home, I use my home brew.

i have tried and didn't like it.
My problem was skin is oily and you cannot stretch the skin . with straight razor in your hands it is really dangerous. gl

I tried it this morning for the first time, with fantastic results. I'm about 2 or 3 months into this whole straight shaving thing, and to date I always get bleeders on my chin. And I'm still learning to hone as well, and so my shaves are uneven.

I used it this morning and had just a fantastic shave: smooth, close, no bleeders, no irritation with scrubbing. Aside from the fact that I now smell like my grandfather, I"m sold.

I tried the whole pre shave oil thing some time ago, it didn't seem to work for me maybe because of my oily complexion, so I gave it up and gave it away.
