Thread: Witch hazel

Youngbarber,
When I first started using witch-hazel, the aroma was so bad it almost made me barf !
However, over a period of time, I got used to it (as TheBigSpendur has said), and I now no longer have any problems with the aroma.
For me the benefits of witch-hazel more than out-weighed the initial aroma problem
Good luck !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 1185A lot has been made of the smell of witch hazel. To be honest, it does kinda have a wet paper bag smell to it at first. However, whatever it smells like, the linger time on the smell is next to nothing. You won't walk around smelling like wet paper bag all day. In fact, it takes 10 seconds to dry down and then it is smell neutral. If you'd like a mixer for it though, I would recommend Osage Rub, the combination menthol and witch hazel is very nice indeed.

Thanked: 199Yup! Straight up! Just use it like aftershave, put a little in your hand, rub em together and rub/pat over your face.
I haven't tried Thayer's yet, but I will at some point. I use T.N. Dickinson WH that my local Walmart stocks. I enjoy it, and it's relatively cheap.
As far as the price goes for Thayers, I think you can find it on Amazon cheaper IIRC.

Thanked: 1185Yeah, I generally use straight up witch hazel followed up by a bit of Corn Husker's Lotion especially in the winter time. Astringent and moisturizer then comes what ever AS/Cologne I'm gonna use.

I like to use witch hazel after every shave. In my rotation, I am currently using Thayers Peach Witch Hazel, Humphreys Witch Hazel and Humphreys Cucumber Melon Witch Hazel. If you do not like the smell of witch hazel, I would recommend the Thayers Peach, to me it has a nice clean smell and feel. The peach is the first Thayer witch hazel I tried and I like enough that when it time to reorder I find myself staying with the peach. Check your local health food stores for witch hazel. My local store carries both the Thayers and Humphreys at a competative price and there are no shipping costs.

Witch hazel
Gentlemen:
The witch hazel I use is Thayer's Super Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera. It's the one with the dark blue label. I barely detect a fragrance, unlike Wilkinson's, which I find quite unpleasant. The Thayer's is more expensive, but it's worth it. I am never without it. Whole Foods has it, as well as some Vitamin shops.
