I use both. First aftershave and then the balm.

I seem to remember something from one of Manic's videos that that was the proper sequence.

Not sure it makes a lot of difference, but seems to work for me. However YMMV.

I use balm. The sensitive skin solution from Nivea. It has barely any scent (none listed on box or container). And boy, does it feel good after a shave! Then I use a Pinaud Clubman after shave splash. Nothing too fancy - I'm a working fool!

I use both. I use Nivea for Men ASB and a wide variety of aftershaves ranging from Aqua Velva and Dominica Bay Rum to Floid and Irish Moos.

Most go with conventional wisdom that balms are moisturizing and splashes are toning. In a lot of cases this is true, but not always. Musgo Real is one of the best moisturizing AS's out there, even compared to balms. And some alcohol splashes (Dominica is a fav) just make your face feel like a million bucks.

Both types have a solid place in my shave den.

I think that's the right way to go - mainly because you get the soothing effect with the balm and the astringent protection of the alcohol with the splash. And, I might add, I also wait about a 1/2 hour between the balm and the splash.

I use both, too. But, more balm in the Winter than in the Summer.

I might add, I usually add the contents of a couple of those little Vitamin E capsules to my drug store splashes(Aqua Velva, Clubman, etc.) so, I can get away without the balm if I'm in a hurry.

I agree with Ryan. I find Musgo Real aftershave to be a great moisturizer.

I also have a fondness for Dominica and Ogallala Bay Rum.

Do you actually add the contents right into the bottle? If so how much do you add? Sounds like a good idea I might give it a try.
