Thread: Pre-shave oil

I have never tried any pre-shave oils before. What would you guys recommend? I have fairly coarse facial hair and moderately sensitive skin.

I too have moderately sensitive skin and parts of my face has incredibly coarse hair. I use Pre-shave oils with every shave. I've learned that I have to use a very, very small amount or the razor starts to stick. If you are interested try the Shaving Company's oil, a small bottle is under $6. It's performance is a little above the middle of the road, it has no scent and is a great one to try before you make the investment of some of the pricier brands.

I use it on every shave and make my own. Easy to mix up, and much cheaper.

I started a thread on exactly the same topic recently and got lots of different responses. For what it's worh I have used T&H in the past which is OK but I'm not too keen on the smell. Some people complain that it clogs the brush and leaves a residue - not something that I've experienced. I'm currently using John Allans Slick Water - as the name suggest it is not oil based - I think it works jsut as well. In the UK it is ridiculously expensive but I assume you can do much better locally.

The only way you will find out if any of the pre shaves make a difference is to try them. Proraso seems to be popular and is available in normal and sensitive varieties.

On the cheap go for Noxema... It's just like proraso... For oil I splruge and go for Art of Shaving Sandelwood.. It feels great an,oisturizes well.

If you want to try it with out breaking the bank 1 cup Castor oil, 1/2 cup olive oil shake and walah! If you like it add a Essential oil for scent and your good to go.

If your going to buy Parasso is my go to stuff.
