Pre-shave oil
I have never tried any pre-shave oils before. What would you guys recommend? I have fairly coarse facial hair and moderately sensitive skin.

I too have moderately sensitive skin and parts of my face has incredibly coarse hair. I use Pre-shave oils with every shave. I've learned that I have to use a very, very small amount or the razor starts to stick. If you are interested try the Shaving Company's oil, a small bottle is under $6. It's performance is a little above the middle of the road, it has no scent and is a great one to try before you make the investment of some of the pricier brands.

I use it on every shave and make my own. Easy to mix up, and much cheaper.

I started a thread on exactly the same topic recently and got lots of different responses. For what it's worh I have used T&H in the past which is OK but I'm not too keen on the smell. Some people complain that it clogs the brush and leaves a residue - not something that I've experienced. I'm currently using John Allans Slick Water - as the name suggest it is not oil based - I think it works jsut as well. In the UK it is ridiculously expensive but I assume you can do much better locally.
The only way you will find out if any of the pre shaves make a difference is to try them. Proraso seems to be popular and is available in normal and sensitive varieties.
Good luck.

I don't use oil. I don't like the oily residue left. I use this for a preshave, lasts a long time, cheap, no scent to speak of & washes off clean with no residue. It also softens the whiskers.

Thanked: 0I'm only about 6 months into using a SR, but for pre-sahve oil I started out with the Art of Shaving product. The AoS seems like it is a bit sticky, but learned that if your face is wet, the oil will thin out quite nicely. After reading several threads about different oil, specifically Vitamin E oil for scar repair, I thought why not try it for a pre-shave. I bought a little bottle of Vitamin E oil at Wal-mart, think I paid around $3 for it, and I really like using it on every shave. I do switch back to the AoS now and then, I just used it today, but for me the cheap Vitamin E seems to work really well.

I've tried a few different pre-shave products. Trumpers Skin food, T&H oil, Proraso cream etc and by far the best is the shaving oil from Village Barber: Shaving Oil - Shaving Oil Village Barber
I think you can get it in the US from Straight Razor Designs.
