I have a question for Y'all. I have found, and expect to find more, after shaves and colognes from the mid seventies. I never could figure out why I received so many when I graduated eighth grade, but I digress. Does it go bad? I wouldn't think so, given the percentage of alcohol in it, but I wondered if it would be the same, scent wise, as it was then?

Most days I wear l'artisan Fou d'Absinthe. How to describe? Lots of booze, spice and a woody green drydown. For me it's a mature and confident green. My daughter claims I smell like cookies when wearing this. While that may be accurate, I have since discovered that she says that to describe any good smell. Longevity is decent for me even though few scents last long on my skin. I find that I can't tolerate any floral or powder scents on myself, so tend towards to the booze, leather, tobacco, and spice scents.

Dony: my understanding is that most scents degrade with exposure to air. These are volatile compounds which help produce scents. Alcohol is a preservative, but even booze will degrade in flavor once exposed to oxygen. I know if I'm slow on a bottle of scotch (months), the last dram is not as sharp as the first. It's not a frequent problem.

Previously used bottles of cologne that I have busted out after a long time have similarly faded over time.

Many people collect "vintage" scents and it all depends on how well they they were stored. I have seen some that were still in great shape. others smelled like crap! rule of thumb is keep in a cool dry dark place.
