53 years ago today, after more than a year of living on a couple of communes in VT and NH, working here-and-there, hitchhiking cross-country (and back), and finally washing dishes at a summer music-and-arts camp, I opted for "three hots 'n a cot" and enlisted in the US Army (traded three years for a guaranteed two-year tour in Alaska, and they trained me in the Infantry as an "Indirect-Fire Crewman", aka mortars).

In honor of the years I served, my FOTD is Victorinox Swiss Army Classic. It might not be the "US" Army, but it's green... so it's right.
