Default What is your favourite Bay Rum??

I'm considering taking the plunge into the realm of the bay rum! I've yet to try this and the idea really intrigues me! I'm also considering making my own; there are a few recips online that seem rather easy. Now, if everyone could chime in and let me know their favourite bay rum, reasons why you love it, and maybe what to stay away from, I would greatly appreciate it!

I don't have a favorite Bay Rum as of yet but I have found this thread started by Glen aka gssixgun to be very helpful with my selections. Peruse it when you have some time.

Depends what you like. some are heavy on the clove smell, others heavy on the bay smell and others heavy on like an orange or citrus and still more are Rum heavy.

Personal favorites are ogallala, and captains smiths (this is a pretty heavy scented rum and spice with alot of alcohol burn)

I just tried a new one, Captain;s choice bay rum. this is my new favorite. no clove smell just bay and a bit of citrus and it feels great on the face compaired to a simple alcohol splash.

I haven't tried too many, but I really dig Dominica Bay Rum, very crisp and doesn't linger ridiculously long.

I think I will try making my own this weekend. WIth that said, I would want something that does have at least some lasting scent. I don't see a point in using something with scent if others can't smell it a little!

I've tried Dominica and Captains Choice. I prefer Captains Choice. Its less sharp, has more cinnamon notes. And while no bay rum lasts, CC seems to leave a light perfume on your skin throughout the day. Plus, its made by a local to my area. So I support my local business.....especially when they are good.

Saint Johns Bay Rum is my favorite for over 44 years now.
