AoS After Shave Mask, thoughts??
Hello All,
I have seen this mentioned a few times, but no real reviews on the product. I am considering trying this out, ask the idea of a soothing mask after a shave is incredibly appealing, but it is a bit pricey, and I have yet to see a comparable product by any other company, so just wondering if it is a waste of money or something to look into.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for any input, this forum has helped me significantly since first picking up a straight. Thanks!
James

Thanked: 16I tried it once and would not use it again. I didn't notice any difference after using it.
By the way, I was in Chicago this month for the marathon and visited both Merz Apothecary and the Truefitt & Hill store. You are fortunate to have both those places available to you.

Thanked: 43I have been to AOS and had a shave from them. After the shave they used the mask. It felt very nice and calmed my skin very well. Knowing my skin, after the shave, it should have been super sensitive and hurt because of the way they shaved me but the mask made a huge difference for me. I have been looking for a less expensive alternative since then and just learned that they sold it on their site since I have only been looking under the shaving products.
That's my 2 cents but I really liked it.

Here is an excerpt from "Shaving Made Easy" 1905.
CARE OF THE FACE AFTER
SHAVING.
]\Most men who shave themselves seem
to think that when they have removed
the beard, they have nothing further to
do. This is a great mistake. They undervalue
the importance of a proper
treatment of the face. A quick and easy
way of caring for the face after shaving,
is to remove the lather by a thorough
washing, then to apply either witch hazel,
bay rum or some other good face lotion,
and to follow this with a small quantity
of talcum powder, evenly applied. This
is probably about all that the average
man will usuallv find time to do.
SHAVING MADE EASY. 75
In order, however, to keep the skin in
a healthful condition, a little more elaborate
treatment should occasionally be
given. We recommend the following:
Wash the face thoroughly to free it from
the lather, and then apply a steaming hot
towel, as hot as can be borne. The heat
and moisture draw the blood to the face,
open the pores, and set up a healthful
action of the skin. Next apply witch
hazel, and finally give the face a thorough
massage. There is no other treatment so
beneficial to the skin. With many persons
the flow of blood to the face and
scalp is very sluggish, because of enfeebled
or slow heart action ; and in consequence,
the many small arteries and capillaries
become clogged. Massage stimulates
the circulation, and brings the blood
from the inner centers to the surface,
filling the many minute capillaries just
underneath the skin, thus producing a
tonic eflfect, which gives the skin renewed
vigor and health
Nothing new under the sun.. If it works don't fix it.

LOL - back when there was romance... ie before the kids lol, the wife would give me a mask now and again when she was giving herself one. I just liked the attention - but I found out soon enough that I liked the effects too.
I haven't found it in me to give em to myself, but after reading this post - why not!? Maybe on my next order. Thing is I just don't need anything yet - but I can fix that lol.David

AoS After Shave Mask, thoughts??
My wife currently thinks that my "Les rituels du bain" now with the straight edge thing are pushing the envelope. The mask thing will fit right in!☺

I used it when it was available here (UK). I was even lucky enough to get it for a reduced price where retailers couldn't get rid of stock for it. It was a nice to have but not essential in my opinion. I would probably try it again given the opportunity...

Thanked: 485I steal my wife's face masks all the time, I love them. That mud stuff that dries on your face is cool too.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I got my hair cut today... yeah I go to a salon. I can't help it, they massage my head and shoulders first and stuff - it's just so dang relaxing. Moreover, it doesn't hurt that my hairdresser is just downright gorgeous and I think she might even do a good job on my hair too lol!
Anyway, thinking about this thread, I got to yapping about masks with my girl. Don't tell anyone, cuz they "aren't suppose to do this," but before she washed my hair (they wash after the cut) she gave me a free mask with the promise that if I were to like it - that I would buy the stuff.
Good times! I got myself a new tub of mask stuff .David
