Thanked: 3Does Proraso make your skin red?
So I've been growing a beard out for the last 5 months. While doing so I've been struggling with red irritated skin.
My doctor thought it was Rosacea(I'm only 26) and told me to take coconut oil everyday.
I didn't really think that was the problem, then I realized it might be the shampoo that I used to wash my beard in the shower seeing as it only started after I started growing my beard.
I changed shampoos and the redness went away, but eventually came back.
Over the past couple of days I've been putting Proraso liquid after shave cream(honey oat and green tea) on it.
The skin itself has been improving the area where I had the irritation is a lot less red.
However, I noticed when I put the Proraso on immediately afterwards the skin gets flushed and turns red. Then over time it fades and the skin turns back to the normal color.
Overall I think the Proraso is helping to improve the skin and moisturizer it, but has anyone experienced where it causes their skin to get red?

Can't say that that has ever happened to me with Proraso.
Here is hoping that your issues discontinue.David

Thanked: 375When I would grow a bread I used Shampoo and Conditioner, to keep the hairs soft (reduces irritation for me). You don't have any birds living in there do you? This could cause redness...... j/k seriously Conditioner, I wonder if beard oil would help? never used it myself....though
Not sure who this is, just found it onlineCHRIS

Thanked: 1195Even though it contains alcohol I find Proraso to be one of the more gentle aftershaves out there. It's good stuff, and I can't say it has ever given me a reaction either. However, I have found that when I grow a beard for a prolonged time I will get spots of irritation, which I believe is acne. My theory is that it comes from natural beard oils and a lack of exfoliation provided by shaving.

Thanked: 375Mighty fine beard! I don't see any birds stuck in there, so you can eliminate that problem......earlier I said about conditioner.......what about beer? mayonnaise? I think i would check into the beard oils personally. I wish I could sport a beard but work requires that I'm clean shaven.

@ryan82 - The weird thing is the affected area is a place that doesn't get shaved when I do shave.
However, when I did start putting the Proraso on their was a lot of dead skin that sloughed off in the area. After that the skin looked a lot healthier, with the exception of the temporary redness caused by the Proraso which lasts 1-2 hours
@Trimmy72 - I've never heard of using beer and mayo as conditioner. I think I might pick up some beard oil. I just got out of the military after 8 years, so I figured I would take advantage of not having to shave.

The white Proraso is, ironically, a bit harsh at first, in my opinion. The blue is actually much gentler and more moisturizing in my experience. You might also try Pre de Provence, which is exceptionally moisturizing.

I think I finally got it under control. I think initially the redness was caused by dry skin. I would was it but not really put moisturizer on it. Then I think when I would sleep at night I would unconsciously scratch it.
I think the redness from the Proraso might have just been from overuse. When I was trying to keep my skin moisturized I was putting it on 2-3 times a day.
I've cut back to once a day and it doesn't get red after applying the Proraso.

Thanked: 49I know this is an old thread but this happens to me too. With the white ASB and with the white preshave cream if I leave it on. It happens to any area that I put it on regardless of whether I shave that area or not. Eventually it goes away.
