    Gentlemen:
    I apply alum after a cold water rinse and pat my face dry about a minute or so later. So mine stays on, and it does wonders for my skin. A touch of witch hazel followed by an aftershave balm is the usual routine. Finally, after everything is completely cleaned off and the razor put away, I apply an aftershave splash.
