I love the stuff. Not only do I love it but my lady loves it too. It's her favorite scent. I take the aftershave and mix it with witch hazel 2/3s witch to 1/3 #6. I also put a couple of drops in with my soap puck and come up with a great smelling lather.

Thanks for the feedback. You've mentioned the aftershave. Does the aftershave and the colonge smell alike? I know sometimes there can be a distinct difference between the 2 for some fragrences

They smell the same to the two of us. Also the balm is very good, too, as is the deoderant.

Default Caswell-Massey Number Six Talcum Powder

I am definitely a fan of Caswell-Massey Number Six Talcum Powder.

Initially, I received a tin of Number Six talcum powder as a gift from my beloved girlfriend. I read a review of the product. My outspoken curiosity motivated her to surprise me with it.

That review suggested a discriminate classic scent: a favorite of George Washington. It proposed a vintage aromatic experience, nostalgic and classy.

Admittedly, it was not a spontaneous fascination, but it immediately claimed its powerful presence. I am not versed on scents, but it makes me think of: sweet, lime, floral, lightly spiced, clean and dry, masculine, somehow Victorian.

I acquired its scent like I had acquired the taste of gin and tonic or single malt scotch (note: the scent is unlike either of these). I came to like it. More fairly, I went beyond liking it. Wearing it has a similar pleasurable sensual experience in its own terms.

Since then, I have also tried the Number Six soap, deodorant and cologne. I have not tried the after shave. I find the cologne’s scent more subtle but spicier. I found the same with the deodorant. To me, the soap is very much like the talcum, powerful but not arrogant. I like it almost the same.

Let us consider the Number Six cologne and deodorant in one hand, and the talcum and soap in the other hand. Strangely, to me, here “dry” has a spirit of its own. I can smell “dry” on the talcum and soap, but not on the cologne and deodorant. I can smell the spice better on the latter two. I still like the cologne, but I prefer the talcum powder.

Currently, the soap and talcum powder are among my regular personal care products, not so much for the cologne or deodorant. If Caswell-Massey would produce an antiperspirant with “drier” properties for both my skin and nose, I would not hesitate to try it with the anticipation of making it a regular.

As for Caswell-Massey colognes, my least favorite is Tricorn. My preferred two are Greenbriar and Newport. Nonetheless, I still like Number Six talcum more than these two colognes.

To finish, I am humbled by the history and quality of Caswell-Massey. I like what I have tried. You might enjoy it too.

I have two bottles of it,
I like them. It is a very citrusy/spicy scent to me, but I'm not a scent expert. If my wife KNOWS I'm going to put it on she pretends not to like it and complains of "old man smell" but when she doesn't know what bottle I grabbed...she likes the stuff. Go figure....

I just returned from a vacation in Paris. Visiting the Old England's store in the vicinity of the Opera (Palais Garnier), I tried Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet and I believe that I found what I was missing in the Number 6 cologne.

Just sprayed, it smelled like a pleasant gin and tonic (according to my lovely girlfriend). Later it developed in a very interestingly fresh and citrus-spicy scent. I even perceive hints of a very subtle incense. I need to give it a few weeks to see if I really like it as much as I expect.

So far, I like it as much as I like the Number Six talcum. They are different, but I believe that they complement each other very well.
