Very nice of you, Bruno. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I guess that puts you out in front of me in Bruno blades Dave,, I guess I had to have a Damascus blade to get in on this, I might have to break my tradition and get one of those striped ones ive been lax on getting razors lately I need to get back on it Tc
Yeah this is my yearly raffle among everyone who bought a wootz or damascus razor or razor blade without scales.
Very cool razors and also very generous of you Bruno. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Mike
First ve heard about it,, guess I should pay attention more,, although how many Bruno's does a guy need! Tc
The answer to that is 2...........
Two more than you ever dreamed you'd actually own lol
I did mention it on my website and my fb page. And to everyone asking about a wootz or Damascus razor :)
I didn't put it in here because I was hesitant about it being interpreted as advertising and I should set a good example, running this place and all.
But then again, I doubt that a raffle entry is going to be the deciding factor for someone to buy a razor from me.
This started last year when I did a raffle to give away a kitchen knife. And I thought it would be fun to give away a razor, considering that I wanted to focus on wootz and Damascus. Of course, I have two daughters and each of them wanted to draw the winner, so one razor became two razors :)
I'll do it again next year, the 2 razor giveaway. I still have to give away 2 razors on account of the 2 daughters, though I don't yet know how exactly.
Yep Thats What Makes Bruno :brunoisright,, Nice Job It Was A Very Nice Video To Watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ty
Yeah, I think 2 is enough :p
I think I may give away one among wootz customers, and one among Damascus customers.
are you trying to tell me I cant have a monosteel blade anymore? we weren't don't yet my friend, and now that Dave has passed me I,m out to take over again!!!! cool I,ll let Glen know its coming in country in a couple of months Tc
Nono TC you can get carbon steel blades till the day you die :)
I meant for the raffle.
Or until I die of course.
It's not that I have stopped making them completely. I still do them upon request.
I just don't make them for retail anymore or for my own projects. Anything I do, working on my own projects of for the things I make for SRD, I use wootz or Damascus or a hybrid of both, to make it more interesting for myself.

Here's the construction process / thread where Bruno made two razors for me from 4 sections of 400+ year old Japanese swords that were made from Tamahagane steel.
http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...ml#post1479572
One of them we worked out kind of a "Blade Runner" theme for the shape, and the "Azumi" was born. And the other one in the black scales, I wanted to go with something along the lines of an old Sheffield razor.
One of the sword makers Kanji stamps were identified as a quite famous sword maker, here's a section from the thread:
"The sword was made in the 1600's by sword master Hata Mitsuyo, he was a famous swordsmith, famous for his short sword, nicknamed, "the Devil's kitchen knife", and if you follow the link below, you can see the last three symbols of the Kanji match the symbols in pic #3 from Bruno's first post and read about the maker - truly an ancient piece of steel. "
Love it, the "Devil's Kitchen Knife":
HATA MITSUYO KATANA
And here are the two Tamahagane razors Bruno made from the ancient sword sections. They are stellar shavers:

That's a machete. My first and so far only one. I did some testing to make sure it wouldn't break upon impact and to my surprise I could throw a foot of 3x7 roofbeam in the air and split it clean through with single cut. Nearly stabbed myself in the foot on the follow through.
Doubt he waited 3 years for an opinion on his scale design... but better late than never I guess.
Guess I shall join-in.
Not a razor, but I do enjoy using mine in the kitchen!

San Mai steel by Howard Clark.

Antique wrought iron sides
Juma Handles
It's called shokwood. That's the brand name. It's a hybrid of stabilized burl and colored resin.
It's beautiful stuff but it has a couple of issues.
Most of it is sold in knife handle lengths so too short for razor scales. It's also almost always out of stock and the guy who makes it doesn't respond to emails. And when used in thin pieces like razor scales, it's pretty fragile
I'm currently working on a showpiece knife for the Gembloux knife show. I'm not manning a table, but I'm staying with a group of master smiths in an old farmhouse and need something to pass round for show and tell. I'll be posting pics later. :D
Oh, thanks for the heads-up. I'd like to find some in razor scale length size, like the two here in this section. I think shell is probably my favorite for what I would consider a high-end straight. Ok. Good luck at the knife show. Where is it? Europe?
Belgium. It's an international show where you'll find Americans, people from the UK, and people from all countries between Spain and the Ukraine. A couple of years ago Mike got me introduced into a group of US and UK smiths he was staying with in Gembloux. I was told I could crash there if I wanted so I stayed and made some new friends. Since then it is a yearly event for me and I stay with the same people and have a good time. I still don't have a table.
There are a couple of reasons for that. For me it is much more an opportunity to socialize and hang out. And 99% of the people buying stuff there are knife people, not razor people. The thought of having hundreds of ignorant people handling my razors and doing god knows what to them, doesn't appeal to me. And one of the nice things is that there are many people sellin ghandle material so it's always a good idea to search around and dig through the bins with cut-offs looking for bargains.
How did the knife show go? You said you were going to spend the night at a house with other smiths? Show us the knife you made for the show.
Lol I was talking about the show in a couple of months. I always talk in weeks and months. The things I do are never quick or immediate.
Earlier today a handful of potatoes were viciously attacked by a Bruno Blade !!
The screaming of the peels could be heard for blocks !!
Here is my recent order from Bruno. 6/8 Wootz steel with bone scales. It is amazing! Really smooth shaving. It is by far the best steel I have experienced. Bruno is an amazing craftsman.Attachment 280495Attachment 280496
I'm glad you love it, as I will want a wootz steel razor someday soon. I am having an 11/8 O2 made for me buy him. I am very, very grateful that he gives people like us the opportunity to own a great razor at such an affordable price and all I have to do is polish it out and provide the scales! Wonderful AND BRILLIANT!
