    Default EDS [Every Day Shaver]

I hate acronyms but I just made one up.

With this group it may be hard to get someone that has one razor that they use everyday.

I have found that I have one in the bathroom that I tend to use everyday. This has changed for myself and will again.

They may be pretty, they may not be. Your Fathers or your Grandfathers. Maybe all that you can afford. Whatever the reason let us know.

Without pictures it didn't happen but forgive me for my photography skills!

Here is mine a Thomas Turner & Co.

    M & D CANADA 1916 on the other side.

Nothing "Special" about it other than I got it "good" shape and it shaves and hones well.

My 5/8" Clauss used to be my daily driver, but in the past year or so... I've been working with sorting out all my natural hones to see what to keep, and I've fallen into a "OK, that's as far as I can take the Clauss" pattern, and now I do the same with my Red Imp or my Joe Chandler custom or..... So I use only one razor until I'm satisfied I cannot take it any further. At that point, I touch it up one last time and it goes with me and my next victim, just in case the new razor doesn't perform well enough first time around and I can simply go back to the previous one to finish the shave.
Once I've got the new razor up to snuff, the previous razor goes back into storage and I just use that one new razor, tweaking and twiddling, until I get it as good as I can make it, and get bored shaving with it. At this point I select a new victim and whole thing starts over again.

I don't like rotations personally.... I like shaving with the same razor, learning it's ins and outs and only moving on when I get bored with it. At this rate... it'll take me a couple of years to go through all the blades I have, unless some more show up. I really don't need any more razors, but I do like the looks of Ulrik's handy work. I'm thinking there may just be one more razor in the works... one of those 6/8" sized Koraat razors in 1/4 hollow. It's easy to want a big razor, and I can shave with them just fine, but I seem happier with 5/8" to 6/8" razors... not by much, but enough to know that I should think hard before ordering something larger than 6/8" when I have a choice.

    Regards

    Christian

Unless I am on a honing binge, which happpens. I often use the same razor for a week or two but don't really have a daily driver for longer than that. I do think that the people around here that only have or onslaught use a one or a couple are often quiet. For that reason I think this thread is a great idea. We really should celebrate all the great shaves even if they are from a minimalist rotation.

Unfortunately I haven't had a daily driver since joining the shave forums a few years ago. Wonder how that happened.

What Tim, Christian and Shaun offer is true. There is no better way to learn a tool than to use it everyday.

The same goes for soaps. Using the same soap everyday lets you learn the secrets of its making.

I once shaved with the same razor for 4 months just to see how long the edge would last. I only stropped it once per day. It was getting a bit rough at the end. har

Almost exactly what I do. I love to hone and many razors are 9-10 out of 10 when done honing the first time. I then move on to another. If not then I go back to the hones to tweak them here and there keeping notes so I can learn all I can. Then I move on to another. When I run out I will sell a couple or give them away and buy a few more OR I will kill an edge on a cheap razor and hone it back up. I think I enjoy honing as much, if not more, than restoring and shaving with them.

I applaud those that are only using one razor. If they only use one brush and one soap also, they are Gods among men.

I do have a favorite, but use a rotation since joining here and the RAD took over

Keeping notes?!?!? Gad, if I did that.... I'd have nothing to do! Nope, no notes for me, when the razor comes around the next time... I have no idea what I did, what hones I used or anything else.

I guess it goes with my age and my tendency to tell the same old boring stories over and over and over.........

Age? I think it is age that causes me to keep notes.
