Thanked: 2209This razor has a lot of wear on it. The spine thickness is uneven!

No shoulder, dip at the toe - so this should clearly be a 1700's and fit in your first section.
Not sure about the maker so far, not a John Fox and no Pitchford either.
Will see if we can get any more infos.

Seems that this mark isn't really easy to determine, even not for Joan at the Cutlers company in Hallamshire.
She found one mark of a "P" above an inverted heart which belonged to Charles Kent. The mark was registered in 1767. So far - so good.
Unfortunately Charles Kent was not a razor maker but a scissorsmith. But it is not exactly clear when the special craft of a razorsmith or -maker was really listed as such in the mark books. Bevore that they all might have been knife- or scissorsmith's. And also a scissorsmith could have made razors in addition.

Thanked: 2209Thanks Peter!
So this razor looks like it was made by Charles Kent after 1767.
Please tell Joan her efforts are much appreciated. This razor will not be sold, rather I will be framing it and use as a display in my home.
BTW, is the document that Joan accessed available to the public? I would like to include it in our Library/Wiki and here on SRP as a "Sticky".Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
