Thanks sparq,
very kind.. I fixed the problem, I think, thaks to another super-kind guy of the Club. I think it should be Ok, now, with this sad experience. However, sparq, I will come back in some days with some impressions for you: some pictures you posted here are really nice!!
Thanks!
Ok, here is my first post in the Butcher Shop! Here is my 7/8 W&B that I'm working on. I got this one off of ebay and I'm doing a resto on it... just got the blade polished and now I'm making some scales out of some nice claro walnut with a maple wedge to match this brush I made. I just couldn't wait to post on the shop though!
Thank you Del for posting some more pictures and getting us off of the 3 page banner discussion...lol nice blade
Please accept my humble application to the Butcher Shop.
It would appear Wade & Butcher had an “up scale” line of razors… The Elite… and boy O boy the shave is as good as her pedigree.
11/16th Wade & Butcher Elite. I will try to describe her:
Rounded, square "Axe" point, Jimps on top and bottom of Tang, Thumb notch and Arris back Spine (kinda diamond shape).
'Ello all.
New to straights, and almost a year into wetshaving in general.
I have a W&B, 7/8 wedge with notch and smile.
Currently being restored/restomodded by me, while I use a 5/8 James Johnson full hollow spike :gaah:
Been busy with school lately, so I haven't been working on it much, but here are some progress pictures:
Starting with it as purchased.
Worm eaten scales:

a bit of hone wear and a touch of rust:rofl2::

the other side:

Tang:

And current condition of the blade:

Almost all of the pitting is gone, not 100% sure if I want to keep going till it's all gone, or if I should just shine it up, put on some scales (yet to be made) and go for it?
Also, any clue on age of the blade? Over on B&B, I got either pre 1891, or pre 1851 from a couple of members.
Here is my entry into the Butcher Shop.
Looks like a workhorse. How're the shaves?
X
It may not be pritty, but the shave is fantastic. I don't know if that is because Wade and Butcher is so good or because it was honed by someone with greater skill than me (not hard) before I received it.
I also just received another Wade and Butcher in the mail today.
Boys I'm finally in the club!!

Happy to finally join the Butcher Shop!
now on to restoring my barber's notch...
A SRP member (Croaker) posted in the "Razor" section a good link about G. Wostenholm. In the same website it is possible to find William Butcher's biography.
I should have never clicked on that link, now I have a 257 piece jigsaw puzzle sitting on my desktop that I will probally spend a week on , lol
Kelly I should have sent them both to Max, but the middle one has some chips in the blade that kinda turned me off , I didnt want to end op with a blade smaller than 6/8, after reparing the edge Im not sure what size I will end up with.
I visited my W&B in the hospital. In a few days he will be out. [8/8 "for barbers only" barber's notch]. :D
Thank you for your comprehension..
:p
I have finished today the razor about which spoke in this topic http://straightrazorpalace.com/aucti...b-butcher.html
W&B, "For barbers use", 17/16.
Very nice work. That's a beauty of a blade.
Hi, guys! I put some new pics in the Wiki DataBase to honour the Club. I hope you appreciate.
Tip: start exploring from letter "W".
:y:y:y
Yay! What a week! First of all, Squid unexpectedly arrives two months early on Sunday. Then the postman dropped this beauty from Buddel through the letter box this morning. It shaves better than it looks.:D:D
So do I qualify for admission & can anyone tell me what this gem is known as?
Thanks Gabor You rock:rock:
Dear fellows of The Butcher Shop,
just few words to share with you an interesting online source titled The Butcher Works.
Best regards
Here something for the Club!
You can find top views and general informations about the razor here (SRP DataBase). The razor came to me in very good conditions: the blade, with a small chip, was perfectly mirrorring, but blond horn scales were in poor conditions (bended and without spacer).
She's about IV˝ in the Henckel's chart (see #1). The back is in diamond shape for 2/3 of the edge and in quill shape for the remaining 1/3; then square as usual in the back (see #2-3 and 5). Marks on the shank are still very very deep (see #4) and grinding marks (vertical lines) are visible (see #2,4). Washers are all like the one in pic.#6, except from one that is slightly different (#7).
I wonder if this Wade&Butcher is a nice regrind or not. Impressions are highly welcomed!
Just picked this up, in sad shape now, but only a patina on the blade, no pitting.
Going to be polished up, new point, and new scales.

This thing is gonna be sweet!
I love finds like this. If I saw it I would have been unable to resist buying it. i think a razor means so much more to a person if you can say 'I restored this.' Even if like me your restoration skills are limited to an attempt at polishing. But having seen your follow up post I am going to assume that your restoration skills far out weigh mine.
Keep up the good work.
My "new" Wade & Butcher 8/8 "For Barbers Use". :D
Here is my new early 1800's W&B, on the handle it says congress razor
