Thanked: 44My only Marshes & Shepherd, in curly maple. Fibers on the blade due to the oil. Big and beautiful, just the way I like 'em!

My first Marshes & Shepherd
Here is my first Marshes & Shepherd. Green horn scales is broken but probably not the original anyway. If the Wiki is right, this should date to 1825
-1828 as there is no reference to "Pond Works" on the tang. Part of the "...shave well" is still on the blade. Not sure what to do about the broken scale. Could add a small pin or could rescale it in a nice horn or bone. Welcome comments and opinions on this and how to proceed. Have not yet put an edge on it, but should be able to with a little effort. Anyway believe this is a nice addition to my stubby collection.

Just had this one show up in the mail. Between the pond works stamp and the VR stamps I’m dating it between 1837-1850. I’m loving the scales and luckily they’re in fantastic shape.
Also has an etch that says “Hastings Hartford, Con”
