Or is it etching... You struck gold if it is.
I am not sure myself.. In one of the pictures it looks like a silhouette of a city background.. Good old fashioned Swedish town houses. And yet in the other picture you can barely see it. I think it might have been a more clear etching a long time ago but that it is now almost worn off.. I will post pictures when I get it. I was very surprised that there were so few bidders. I think it was because the seller didn't include "Heljestrand" in the description. He also made some typing errors that surely threw most people off, and I was just lucky to click on it for a closer look.

If it really is a clear etching of a city background I will post how much (little) I payed for it to really rub it in.. He,he..

Here's my one and only swede. A Klas Tornblum I snagged off the Bay recently. The tip has (at this point it's now "had") a chip that needs to be honed away, but other than that, the blade is virtually mint. I absolutely hate the fake bamboo scales, but that's easily remedied.

It's a tad on the small side, but shaves well.
(The pic is the one from Ebay. I'll post an update after I decide on new scales.)

On an unrelated note, have you tried any of the Russian straights? Just curious.

There are some high-quality SU razors . Maybe sometimes not very pretty, but good shave ...

I finally got my Heljestrand and I must say.. It has the strangest etching I have ever seen. If you look at it from one angle it looks like it has no etching. If you look from another angle it looks like it has a barely visible etching. Almost like someone has polished it off with maas or something. But as you turn it and look at it from yet another angle you can see a clear ecthing.. dark black.. a city silhouette. You can see the etching very cleary when you have the razor in your hand and move it around to let the light hit the blade from different angles, but almost impossible to catch the effect in pictures.. The only thing I can compare it to is a hologram.

    Take a look:

I took a lot of pictures from all kinds of angles, with and without flash and extra lighting and it's the best I could do. The 3rd picture was a macro close-up with flash.. Sorry I couldn't take better pictures. I only have a nokia n95 that I use to take pics with.

This is my first Heljestrand, and boy am I happy with it!
