You have a hand forged razor, made in Sakae, Japan (Sakae TM on the box). If the box isn’t original to the razor, then I cannot say what it is, the marking on the front tang isn’t really readable to me. But Sakae is (like Sanjo) Solingen (or Sheffield) of Japan. Might wanna check Fikira’s blog on Japanese makers.

I believe 共栄 (tang, box) = Koyei or Kyōei (could mean "Prosperity")
Sadly at the moment I don't know much more about it...

    Nice razor!

    Nice razor!
That is probably the correct translation. It seems popular in Asian culture to give businesses/products names with even more emphasis on desirable attributes.
I worked for a company with the word "won" (as in win) in their name. In English it would have been like naming the company Jones Won. Wish I hadn't gotten laid off after less than a year but they opened another office in Japan (China based) and closed their only US office due to cost of shipping materials back to China.

I have a similarly shaped Henkotsu kamisori that is an excellent shaver. I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I do. Congratulations.

Thanks, I look forward to this one. Apparently these were a favorite of barbers and I haven't seen many of these large 日下開山 blades in scales like this. Thought it looked really interesting and the red scales seem to be unique too. My only other kamisori is the old Ohiri style so this will be something new to me.

    Thumbs up

Little gem from Far East ... this is an anticipated score, but I'm so happy.
This is the second Tanifuji, after a wonderful Kintaka folding kamisori.

This NOS and pristine Iwasaki - Kamijo Yukio Western straight (carbon steel, not tamahagane) was found and saved during my last trip to Japan:

If I understand correctly Fikira's comprehensive compendium, it's from before '65.

If I understood correctly, it indeed is!

Since the Western type of lettres and numbers, and the usage of such scales, I would say near the end of Kamijo's "reign",
    around 1960-'65

    BEAUTIFUL!
