Friede 510
Hi to all!
Just bought (and used) my first Japanese straight. It's an almost NOS Friede 510 Frameback. Saw just a few images here, but no info about the producer and date of manifacture.
Can anyone help me to know more about?
Thanks!
I know that I don't know (Socrates)

Thanked: 1081Ive seen that model before. Theres a ton of Japanese framebacks from unknown makers. As Jamie said it's not from a well known maker but that doesn't mean it wont shave well.
On the rear tang there should be some kanji, if you post here https://sharprazorpalace.com/razors/...quests-30.html you will get some help.
Edit: beat me too it!Last edited by markbignosekelly; 11-14-2020 at 11:13 AM. Reason: Taking too long to write a post

Thanked: 1081NOS Manaslu. M55. Y. Akamatsu Razor Works
マナスル.
This model is quite rare, serial number: 1343.
Perfect grinding, tiny bevel, looks like it just needs stropping. Cant wait to give it a whirl.

Did a side by side comparison of my Tanifuji 11/16 Manaslu 7/8. Although both full hollow and not much difference in size there is a noticeable difference in weight. The Manaslu feels so much heavier than the Tanifuji, not a bad or good thing, just different.
I also noticed that although they both gave a very close shave the Tanifuji was a lot smoother shaver.
Now the Manaslu was NOS with a factory edge that just had a good stropping and my Tanifuji I've had for a while so have an edge that I love. I just need to tweak the Manaslu to my preference and it will be a wonderful shaver.
Hard to say which one would get the nod, both limited edition and distributed by Nichiri Co, even the graphics and model stamps are particularly similar. Gun to the head I'd say the Tanifuji but only because what Tanifuji Fukutaro
did for the straight razor world.
