It's on its way from Japan as of now, but I put my money on plastic.
The Japanese don't seem to care much about handles, it's all about the edge!
Wish it was here now... I "need" it!

Where are you guys finding these beautiful razors?? :)
When you consider the majority of razors are in a drab and boring black I think Japanese razor have some of the nicest scales and finish I've seen, and another thing the Peening and finish are totally superior to any British Swedish or German razor I've ever seen, if the Japanese don't seem to care much about handles then all I have to say god help the rest of the chasing pack, because they are in division 2.
I really like the scales on a lot of Western Japanese razors, especially the flashy ones. For me the fanciful colors/designs of the scales make for an excellent counterpoint to the deadly seriousness the Japanese have about their edged steel. Of course, I think they could look great rescaled also. I just wouldn't want to break that bond. For muted beauty I think a black scaled Iwasaki that was once for sale on a site I peek in on now and then is one of the most beautiful razors ever made.
My post was about tanis and capes, the scales were garbage.
May be depends on which Tanifuji, here is the one I have left, the scales are really good.

The others that I have handled also had very good scales.
Got this one a few months ago and today finally got to taking some pics of it.
I worked one one like that for a member and really liked it so as soon a I had the chance I got one for myself.
Kamisori grind NOS condition, it has spots here and there that I will clean one day when I have time for it.
