    Those are the original scales that came with the razor...I'd gather they are just celluloid.

    For a smaller razor, it's surprising at how heavy it is as well, has some significant heft to it, smooth as silk to shave with.

    I find most Japanese Straights have some heft to them ,Ja[panese steel has more weight than most razors .In most cases they take a great edge .
