Anyone have any idea about the Co. history, or dating these. I am going to look for a barber who can hone these for me tommorow. Looking forward to trying them out.

Just got my Torrey yesterday and what a great shave it was will be looking to find more and different ones now.
I got a Torrey from a friend and sent it off to JoeD for an overhaul. Can't wait to get it back.
i just picked up my second torrey this afternoon, and strangely it looks very similar to my first torrey, so i figure i need 5 more just like it and i will have a 7 day set. i will get pics loaded on here as soon as i can,
was able to get some pics, i hope they turn out ok, the bottom one is the one i picked up a few weeks back, and man do i love the shave i get with it, i can only hope the new one will shave just as well
Just got this Torrey put together. Used up recycled parts to get this one up and running, I'll put it to the stones soon and give it a shot. Nice near wedge on this one :)
I only have three Torreys and they are very good shavers. I have never heard one negative comment about Torrey razors in all my years of collecting. I believe I have room for one more if I can find a real beauty.
Its not as clean as I would like yet, but it does shave.
I have a 6/8 Torrey, not a full hollow, maybe half. But I need help! I have been completely unable to make this razor into a good shaver. It always feels like it is not sharp enough. I have read other threads in the past that said there are some razors that just won't take a good edge, I think maybe this is right. I have been straight shaving for over 2 years, and have a collection of about 20 different razors, all honed by me to completely shave ready. But this dadgummed thing is just about to get the best of me. The first pass is just not close enough, but it is okay after 2 passes. It passes the HHT as well as any razor I have seen. I guess the steel is just the hardest steel of any razor I have. Any suggestions or thoughts? anybody else experience this? It obviously is a quality razor, and I love the feel and weight of it.
Zues, I sent a PM.
I think Torrey steel is consistently the hardest razor steel out there. I t may be difficult to hone sometimes but once that hard steel takes an edge it will keep it.
I agree with Nun2sharp, Torrey's are great razors when honed properly. Some razors from the same manufacturer may hone up easy and others no so much. Contact Nun2sharp by PM and take his assistance or send it to someone with lots of experience honing razors to get the bevel set and a good first edge. Touch up should be easier than setting the bevel. The hone you/we use may also influence the speed in which a razor gets an edge. Some hones work better with harder steel, some with softer steel. For some weird reason time almost always relates to money. In this case, several sets of hones. If you don't mind the extra time one good set of hones will make do on the greater percentage of razors.
I believe I posted this before, but I just ran across this thread, so....

My first Torrey !
Congrats on your first Torrey, they are fantastic shavers and that one you have there is gorgeous! Welcome to the Club!
MarineDad or anyone else, do you know what years that Our 136 was produced. I just got one in from ebay last night and it has the same markings with a barbers notch.

Correct me if I'm wrong. This is dated circa 1880-1895.
My first restore, just wanted to add my addition to the Torrey team! Walnut scales I made.

Just added the first Torreys to my collection this weekend...

I recently rescaled my Torrey and just remembered the club so here she is! The golden pine sparkles but you can't see it in a pic, with a walnut wedge.
I have discovered Torrey razors as well! Great steel! Here is my Torrey "Ear of Corn" Celebrated and my Torrey "Swedish Razor"! :)
Another Torrey. This one a 7/8
Are torrey a good razor?

I just got this one. Was in great shape all I did was a few on the coticule and strop. Shaves great! It's my second Torrey.
Nothing fancy but the blades, even if not polished, make the renewal of a less than perfect one worth while!

Any are good but the little double fullered ones are my best shavers. After the long bout of honings and more honings to really set the edge! I like the look of them too!.

If you find the Torrey's in good condition, you won't need? many razors. a pair will do for a looooonnnng time! I just like to try different razors.
