Hope I am posting this in the right place.
Wanting to get a Genco De Roma & I came across this one.
But it appears to be stamped on the opposite sides of every other Genco I've seen.
Could this be a "Left Handed" razor - or do you guys think it's a knock-off??
Opinions would be very appreciated.

Real deal, that. Mine, however, is not the same. Yours may well be an early production, whereas mine was made later when they discovered they could put the whole thing on one side and save a step.
Trust me in that if someone were to do a 'knock-off' of a razor, it would likely not be a Genco, but something a lot more expensive! :D

Keep in mind that your early example is a bit worn. Older celluloid was a bit sketchy. Seems the bolsters are unattached and the scales have shrunk. Not too much, now! :whipped:Quote:

It arrived today! My very own Genco! Yipee!
It has more hone wear than I thought, a little worn on the toe.
But it's still pretty sharp.
The bolsters are attached just fine. Centers well, but does feel a little stiff in the pivot.
Now my dilema is: use it as is? Or send it out to be restored? And if so, who would you guys recommend?

Scrub it lightly with an old toothbrush and diluted simple green. Some polish. All it will need, I think.
Hone it and use it! ;)

Hmmm, I do have some "Purple" cleaner. Think that might work if I dilute it enough?:shrug:
No Flitz, Simichrome or Mothers, :idea:but I may have some brass & chrome polish hiding somewhere.
Finally, no hones. Yet. Hell, my strop is a cardboard & newspaper covered 2x4:gth
Can you tell --- I really have no idea what I'm doing. But it sure is fun doing it. So I guess I will try to find whatever polish I have here, dilute the dog-snot out some purple (it's pretty harsh), clean & polish the best I can & then start on my "strop" & just see where I end up.
Should I try to get a drop of oil into the pivot area do you think??
