Just read this incredible thread. Delighted so many sets still exist and are loved/utilized as intended. Thank you all for contributing.
I put this Joseph Allen set together earlier this year, all in ebony one piece scales. Someone called it a working man's set, which I thing is a fair description as I am one.

Sorry, forgot to say they are stamped Bengall on the tang and Toledo Hollow Ground on the blade. And yes they are very sharp !

Mine is marked "breveté SGDG", (patented without guaranty from the government), what could indicate that it was made in France ? Quite surprised about that.
