Man that is very nice! Enjoy! I have it's smaller, younger brother, a later 4 blade set. These are small, 2 3/4 bevel and 5/8+ width. All blades are identical in wear and condition. It is just well-oiled for now. One day, I will get them out and run them! Guaranteed good shavers!

(Take note that all blades are marked 13 as is the brass tang! Of all the numbers to get! )

I really wonder what the numbers mean. Mine are all stamped 6. I've seen one other Rodgers set stamped 12. It's not size, because your set and mine are the same (though it looks like yours is more uniform).

I feel is is the number for the set on that particular day/time. We must remember that this is before Henry Ford's T and interchangable parts. Every set was fitted individually, by hand!

NICE lookin set Tom. They sure look a LOT bigger than 5/8 in that pic. Guess the small handle does that.

With Manah's set there, I think your theory is sitting pretty!

The number probably identifies the seat of the grinder. At least, I assume the grinders had fixed seating. Considering how the wheels had a habit of exploding though, maybe not!

By the way, Alex, do you have any vintage advertisements for 7-day sets? I'm really curious how much they cost 'in the day'.

My guess is £5-£8 in 1820.

Unfortunately, I don't have any vintage advertisements from that time (1820s etc.). But I'll try to find.
