They are just different. Different touch, different feel. They are both good in their respective qualities. In terms of velvety touch, Damascus certainly is better.
Well I must say I have a deep longing for a Mastro carbon damascus. Is there any difference between the normal twisted damascus and the San mai damascus is terms of shave ?
They both shave magnificently. It is mainly a matter of aesthetics: they are both great
Am I right in thinking the San Mao has more markings in the metal than the twisted Damascus ?
If I get what you mean right, I think it is the opposite. San Mai is made from three layers: sides are usually made of Damascus, the middle layer is made of hard tempered steel. In terms of markings, regular Damascus has more.
San Mai can also be made from three Damascus layers, though. I have a Mastro Livi razor made like so.
Do you find you get a better more comfortable shave with your San mai damascus OR ur wooden pattern carbon damascus. Also do you think extra hollow grind helps with a smoother shave ?
Both Damascus provide for an excellent shave. As for blade grinding, it also depends on the type of beard you have. In case you have a tough beard, I would not suggest you an extra hollow grind.
I would say I have a tough beard so an normal hollow grind will be fine I would have thought. Will the 2 differnt damascus metal be better for differnt beard types ?
