    Default # 14

    Hi all,

The idea in this topic is to show pictures of all the manufacturers that processed #14 blanks and sold them under various names and branding.

Reason for starting this topic is that many straight razor enthousiasts love these razors for their looks and their properties.

As a result there are many and sometimes contradicting stories regarding these # 14 razors.

Next to your pictures, history / facts and other informations are very welcome in this topic.

As far as I know there are many manufacturers that processed the # 14 blanks and many brands that sold them:

    - J.A. Henckels,

    - Palmera Irun,

    - Guillermo Hoppe Argentinien (vorher Gustav Hoppe Solingen),

    - Jose Monsterrat Pou / Filarmonica,

    - etc, etc.

Informations and improvements to this brief list are very welcome.

Allegedly, all # 14 blanks came from the Henckenrath forgery in Germany.

Informations and improvements also here very welcome.

This topic would allow us to create an overview and compare all the different # 14 straight razors in one topic.

To kick off this topic, below the pictures of the two # 14 straight razors from different manufacturers / brands I now own.

Hope that many of you will contribute with pictures and informations about the # 14's you own so that we'll create a good overview.

    Kindest regards, Jazor.

Cocodrilo (Palmera Irun) # 14 8/8 Carbonsteel NOS:

Looking forward to your pictures and postings!

    Default Fontana #14

Here is an impression of my Fontana 14:

It's a relatively unknown brand, but a really great shaver!

Rich Abr Herder 15/16 #14 that I just got done restoring. Razor rivals my Palmera #14 and is one of the best razors I've come across.

@ Sashimi: beautiful straight razor! What a cool logo that "fountain". Seems like original scales which is my personal preference.

@ Harvitz81: what a cool blade! Never seen a Rich Abr Herder # 14 before. What alterations to the blade itself were done whilst restoring (apart from clearly the new scales)?

Reason for asking is that in all # 14's I've seen of what ever the brand, the tang is cerrated and the "nose" is not as facetted.

Very beautiful razor indeed with "El Principe" engraved. How hollow or how "wedgy" has that blade been cut?

    Kind regards, Jazor.

In this topic of # 14's ofcourse the Filarmonica can not lack.

Here a recent purchase I added to my rotation: it's a Filarmonica Doble Temple # 14 in 8/8.

    Kindest regards, Jazor.

I had an Imperial at one point. Had to hone out a chip or something (I forget, but I think it was a chip), so it's a bit narrower than it used to be.

I actually made no alterations. The Thumb notch is original (and huge!)

I would say the razor is between a 1/4 to 1/2 hollow.

To be honest I bought this razor 6 months ago (for super cheap sum of $24) and only got around to restoring it this week. I wish I had done so sooner! It is a top 5 razor in my personal collection and I couldn't believe the edge it took.

I definitely have never seen another like it.
