Great-looking Elliots posted so far! I thought this might be a club for NOS razors at first glance, but I think I like this better :)
Wow did we really not have an Elliot club earlier than this? Love mine, will add them soon.
Here is my Elliot post Sprecher treatment.

This club is entirely underused!
Here's all of my Elliot razors laid out chronologically.

You'll notice some are held together with microfasteners, those are the ones I've done a little bit of cleanup on. Several are fully restored, but my goal is for all of them to be once spare time permits.
The Elliot razors are among my personal favorites. I've found them to be unusually distinctive in their designs (at least during the heyday of the company, that one on the far right is a pretty standard item, but it was made around 1905 according to the Elliot catalog I've seen).

Most of mine are 'Silver Steel', which seems to have been very much adopted by the company.
There's a hilarious series of letters that ran in the Sheffield Independent back in 1826 with correspondents naming themselves things like 'AN ENEMY TO FRAUD', 'FLAT BACK' and 'A FRIEND TO INVENTION' all argue back and forth about whether silver steel is useful or just a bunch of hokum. Joseph Elliot made extensive use of the stamp, at the very least. Tellingly, Wade & Butcher (whose main business was originally refining steel, believe it or not!) doesn't seem to have ever stamped anything Silver Steel.

At least within my collection, the Elliot razors tend to have pretty distinctive blades too.
Edited to add:
There's also an Elliot razor in 'BOSTON' stamped scales. I tried to buy it, but was outbid. :)
Anyone know about others in that series?
Voidmaster,
That is one hell of a good looking lineup of Joseph Elliot's.
Indeed a beautiful grouping of Elliot's, especially that double thumb notch blade!
hello !

I am proud to say I am the new owner of an Elliot as a new straight razor user I am excited! I have tried to find some information about the razor. Here are some pictures...Attachment 158199Attachment 158200Attachment 158202Attachment 158202Attachment 158203
Big thank-you to SRP member JBHoren for making this happen - what a unique blade!
Some months have gone by since receiving this fine Joseph Elliot, "Chinese Razor", from JBHoren. Since then, Valery from the Gentleman's Den has brought this beauty back to life.
Thank-you to JBHoren and Valery!

Awesome scales! (and what Valery did with the rusty blade ain't too shabby, either)
Smooth shaving!
Okay, so we've got two Elliot threads here in the clubs... That's a bit weird.
This one has fewer than the other one, so I'll just leave this here.

Most of my Elliots.
They span about a hundred years of the company's history. The earliest is the carved ivory scale one (1810ish) at about 1 o'clock, the latest one is the celluloid one (1910ish) at 6 o'clock -- which trumps all that wimpy SILVER steel, as it proudly proclaims URANIUM!
Nice little collection Zak :tu
Another great Saturday afternoon, 1,000km away from the Royal Windsor Hotel in Cairo is Damascus, and since Wade and Butcher were in Cairo, Joseph Elliot took over Damascus I guess....I noticed this blade as it's design seems similar to the W&B, Ottoman and Egyptian Royal Windsor straight razor.
I looked around the web, including in the SRP database, and couldn't really find any information about this blade. The etching on the blade was described as Hebrew, and this was confirmed to me by a friend, however, couldn't quite make a translation from the pics.
Anyhow, here it is, the Joseph Elliot, Damascus Razor.

Yet another fine example of an Elliot.
Ah, so it was you that got that!
I'd still like to punch whoever ground the original, lovely, smiling edge down to a flat line. Still, I have no doubt it'll shave great.
The blade stamp looks closest to Medieval Hebrew, but I honestly doubt it's anything more than the 'Chinese' razors most companies made. I'd love to be wrong about that though!
I'm also especially taken with the tang stamp, which I've never seen on another Elliot razor. The typeface used is, near as I can tell, unique to that one. I've seen French razors with similar dies, but never a Sheffield razor.
Even with the brutalized edge that's a catch and a half!
Thanks VM - this is one of those blades I'm not going to do much with, it purports to come shave ready, so that most I might do is get it honed and cleaned up, but for awhile at least, no mirror polish, just lock it down in it's current state.
When it gets here I'll post some better pics....
Awesome! I have this sneaky suspicion that the seller is the one who ground the edge down to a straight line in an effort to hone it. They also seem to have done some sort of grinding/sanding on the blade face... But really, it's not like there's any other ones in better condition to choose from! That's the only one I've ever seen, and I don't really expect to see another anytime soon.
(hint, hint, to all you people out there using SRP as a seller's guide)
Interesting point - while I can search the W&B Ottoman and get several results, I got nada with the Damascus, the only pic that showed up was one from the auction, and I was a bit surprised not to find it in the SRP database...guess I'll have to figure out a way to put it in there for the records.
Beautiful old razor. I showed the writing to someone at work. It is apparently not standard modern Hebrew. She thinks it is either a name, an anagram or older Hebrew. It is not a standard modern phrase. If you want it translated dhe says she can show it to her husband who would know more.
Enjoy!
Update- The Hebrew text reads "he who owns this razor is damned to hell for eternity". I think you need to ship it to me for proper disposal. :)
Beautiful razors gentlemen.
Added to my want list.. Seems these older mfgr s really took the time to make the subtle features that really stand out, thumb notches, jimp design, and just general craftsmanship..
Thanks for the eye candy..
Beautiful. Too bad someone honed out the smile
I have a similar Joseph Elliot's Damascus Razor with the same style tang stamp and Hebrew writing on the blade. You can see more, high res photos here.

Here are two Elliots I have. The first one says Fine India Sreel on the blade but it is hard to read.
Got it already 5 month back and didn't had time to upload a picture. What a beauty!
(For those who are not familiar with this razor. This is original shape and it is not honed off.)

I've been trying to get to some projects that have been waiting.
This is one of four for this thread.
The others will follow. This is my first attempt at carving bone.
I'm not sure how this would have been dressed in to begin with but it seems appropriate.
