Default Joseph Rodgers & Sons 9/16 Spanish Point, Original Ivory Scales, Shave Ready

Offering a 9/16 Joseph Rodgers & Sons (Sheffield) quarter hollow ground Spanish point razor with original pre-ban ivory scales and lead wedge. The tang stamp reads 'Joseph Rodgers & Sons | Cutlers to Their Majesties | Sheffield'. I believe that it dates from the 1870s-1880s.

There is minimal staining and light pitting on the blade but not near the edge. The tang stamp is quite clear. The scales are pinned with washers, which is not normal for Rodgers, so it may have been repinned at some time. The blade shows signs of having been polished with greaseless compound.

I purchased this razor very recently off eBay for $120.00; there were about 18 watchers so some of you have probably seen it. It's a very nice Rodgers, but just too narrow for me - I prefer at least a 7/8 blade. I have done no restoration work on this razor beyond honing.

The razor is freshly honed on Japanese natural stones: sharpening and pre-finishing on a Shinden Hon Suita using a full Asano Mikawa Nagura progression (Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro, Koma), and final finishing on an Ozuku Kiita with Tomo Nagura and then plain water. Honing was done without tape.

Asking exactly what I paid for it: $120.00 with free shipping via Priority Mail. CONUS sales only, please. Please ask any questions, and thanks to SRP for offering this service to members!

I think it's an optical illusion caused by the edge not being parallel to the spine due to wear. When you place the edge on a flat surface, there is no frown. If the blade were wider to begin with, I'd be tempted to breadknife a bit more smile into it, but that would make it even narrower.

I've decided to rework the edge, may relist if it turns out ok.
