Thread: Older Merkur Futur in black plastic case

One Merkur Futur, chrome finish in the old style black plastic case.

PLEASE READ ABOUT CONDITION

There is a chip in the chrome finish where a small amount of chrome has flaked off. The surrounding area is solid, but if I were concerned, I would give it a lick of clear nail polish to keep the water from wicking in underneath. You can see the chip, inline with the 5 on the handle in the closeup... it's right on the edge of the joint between the handle and the bottom of the razor head.

There is also a crack in the plastic lid of the case, you can see the light shining through the crack in the shadow of the lid on the first photo.

I will call this a user, or perhaps a "I wonder if a Futur might be the razor for me?" kind of thing. The price is $25 and I will ship it via regular mail anywhere in North America for that. I recently checked shipping to EU on a couple of items and I'm still in shock at the cost, so if you are outside NA, we'll have to negotiate something.

If you like pristine razors, this one ain't for you. If you want a user that you don't want to have to worry about, or perhaps you just don't want to spend the money to buy a new one, only to find it doesn't work for you, then this may be for you.

My findings were that it was too heavy for me, and I don't like the chrome finish as I'm a messy shaver and once wet with lather, it's hard to hang on to. There's always plastidip, shrinkwrap tubing, elastic bands or a piece of surgical rubber tubing if you can find the right size to slip over it to deal with slipping if that is your only issue. Otherwise it's in excellent shape and would make a fine razor for years to come.
