Thread: J Weiss, 62 Strand Gentleman's twin set ebony wood box RARE

A lovely vintage Sheffield steel, J Weiss gentlemans twin set stamped 62 Strand, and with G.R. which I assume is for King George IV, These razors I believe wher made 1836-1841, (yes I know thats just outside George IV reign) but with it being stamped 62 Strand (they moved to that site in 1836) and not having & sons, (& sons was stamped as of 1841) thats how I am dating these,
I am just guessing they continued to use the G.R. stamp.

The razors are not shave ready, and I have not attempted to do anything with them, it does look like they have been polished, the blade size 11/16+ on each at its widest point.

The scales are natural, and original and look like ivory to me, yes they are both split at the wedge end, but they are all solid, and are on the reverse of the razor and not the show side, I am including a a old tatty butler razor and another set of of scales which should help to restore these to as original spec if required the butler and the other scales are a dam close match in terms of where the pin holes go, the scales set on there own do have a small crack near the pin hole for the pivot pin.

The box is simply stunning a smooth opening and closing and the clip clasp works fantastic, just one small piece missing on the side, I am sure a small piece of ebony could be acquired and then set in place to finalise the restoration.

Selling this lovely set set due to not having the time to restore it as I am not working a full time permanent job, I am at the mercy of employment agency's so I have to work as and when they want me to, which is either add hoc or constantly.
And I am happy with what razors I have and need to reduce what I have
