Lutzenkirchen's 5/8 Extra Full Hollow NOS with MOP covered tang
Found this gem in a box I'd forgotten about that contained about 40 covered tang blades. I went through a covered tang phase... This one is in primo shape and had never been honed outside the factory in Solingen. I did keen it up (since factory edges are just OK) and finished it (Escher, CrOx, hard felt, leather) but did not use any tape since it's NOS.
Tried to capture the translucence of the MOP in the photos and may have succeeded - hope so. It's a bit over 5/8 but just shy of 11/16. Scales are great, pins tight, blade centers as it should. There is a small stain at the top of the toe on the face side and that's in the photos - but it looks like just a smudge. I did a partial shave with it and it's a surprisingly good shaver even on the forest on my chin.
I'd not heard of Lutzenkirchen before I picked this up and the Lutzenkirchen blade in the Wiki here is not this model. So I assume this one is a bit unique - or not. This is the first Lutzenkirchen I've seen with MOP cover tang. There's at least one out there with a bone or ivory covered tang but that's all I could find.
From what I can determine it's from the 1920s. It's in fantastic shape for a 100 year old blade. The gargoyle agrees and looks as if he's feeling to see if his chin whiskers are ready for a shave with it. Those of you in Oz may recognize the lizard (it's not included either). I bought it at market day in Darwin about 25 years ago. If you know the artisan please them I still use it as a pen holder and a prop for razor photos.
Asking $107 shipped, insured, and tracked to the US and Canada. Really want ten dollars less for the razor but the cost of shipping/tracking/insurance to just CONUS is a bit over $10 for Priority Mail these days. Please contact me first if you want it shipped elsewhere so we can determine if there's any extra costs involved.
