Default Henckels 5/8" Hollow Ground Razor with Guard

Vintage Henckels 5/8" German razor in really great shape with almost no hone wear, original box with some sort of guard that slides over the blade, I've never seen another like it, it's either some type of safety shield or lets it double as something for hair shaping. This one shaves great!

Is that guard maybe for turning it into a thinning razor maybe? I've never seen anything like that. Pretty cool.

That's one of the things that crossed my mind when I first saw it.

I'd guess double duty for a barber. I have wavy hair, and in the late 50s and early 60s, my barber would cut my hair with a SR (a razor cut) to make it look like Perry Como's (for those of you old enough to remember him). It cost extra. Now that I have straights to maintain, I know why!

That makes total sense for that guard

I feel like pictures of you during this era, with the Perry Como look, would definitely be helpful for this thread.

It is a safety-razor. The guard maintains the proper angle and can be slid-off and reinstalled on the other side, if desired.
I have a #60, same but just a bit larger. I have no guard, however.
These are stiff wedges and shave wonderfully....Guard or not!
