It's a typical vintage Barber's hone. The early man-made hones which I understand came about with the 'new' hard American steel.
In fact, most I have seen were American made.
A barber often had it in the shirt pocket. a few licks as the razor pulled and some strop brought the edge back.

Thanked: 0That's a nice picture. It's almost a pity that this example doesn't have that kind of history.

Thanked: 480I'm pretty sure the oldest "Lizards" were the ones with the critter engraved right onto the blade. Find one of those, in 6/8, without rust, and we can talk! That is a great one, to be sure, and the larger size B5 model. Will make some one a happy shaver

I don't think so, Steve....Here is a later 6/8 one with the lizard on the blade.
Totally different lizard.

Thanked: 480You WOULD toss a 6/8 Lizard up in my face! ya bastid.... That is certainly a newer style lizard, so either my brain is all fried up, or perhaps they did blade etch in an older style as well? Because something inside is insisting that I had seen the older type of lizard on an blade etch.
Whats the model number on the tang?

Steve it is a 131. Not on the tail, but etched on the back side tang.
It's 6/8 brother has darker green scales and a larger, more squared tang/tail with a definite heavier grind.
Lacking the tang embellishments and barely readable, a 131B on the backside tang as well.
Not in as fine condition as the one offered, but shows that a Lizard is not always the same as....a Lizard!
On Ebay, there are a few rough ones, a 6/8 131C on the tail and one similar to the one offered, but a 5401 on the backside tang
No lizards on the blades...
I wish I knew production dates, etc.Last edited by sharptonn; 10-09-2019 at 01:47 PM.
