Thanked: 634First Dovo razor
Hi all
Just bought my first Dovo on E-Bay for a good price. Have given it a good strop and shaved with it on Sunday. Did a great comfortable close job. Very satisfied.

Thanked: 57Dovo's are great razors and they're underrated. I have 3 new 6/8" Dovo's and they're great! Enjoy!

Congratulations on your win! A word of advice, be extra diligent in keeping that blade very dry and oiled whenever possible. Polish will take that gold wash off and any kind of spotting/tarnish will end up being permanent if you want to preserve the gold wash.
JimmyHAD:My wife told me if I bought another razor she would leave me ........ and I miss her sometimes......

Thanked: 634thanks for the advise. I always dry my razor after use and then strop it before putting it away.

Haha I have that same razor. Watch out for the pins they tend to get loose and will rust in a heart beat if you don't completely dry it off and in between the scales. It holds an edge for a long time in me experience. But yeah that gold wash is finicky and will start to wear away when you start to hone it unless you use tape. Anyways congrats and it likes like you have excellent taste my friend.

Thanks for the heads up on the pins. I make sure that I dry my razors after each use and keep a light coat of oil on the blade. So far are very happy with the razor. If the gold wears off there is not much I can do about that.

well I haven't taken a razor to a jeweler but I had a few watches and the gold was starting to wear off and they did it for like 20 bucks. Now you might have to pay a bit more because the jeweler is a friend of the family and I'm sure he gave me a discount and it might cost more for a razor...who knows. Also the pins were just in my experience so it might be just me but all I did was take a ball peen hammer and tap it lightly and it adjusted it somewhat. There is a video from Lynn on how to do it yourself in the wiki.

Thanked: 12I bought the same razor about 13 years ago as part of a cased set. Used it heavily for ten years. Now part of a larger rotation. Yes the gold has worn but it earned it, and it is certainly not worn off. Still looks good and has a well deserved character. Keep it clean and oiled and accept the wear as part of a good tool serving you well.

Wow - beautiful razor - if you don't like it, feel free to ship it to me.
I just picked up a nice Solingen Holeka 50 razor at a yard sale, virtually brand new....my workhorse DOVO 5/8 is off to the shop right now.
