Thanked: 634Try looking on straight razor designs. They have a Ralf Aust that is pretty good for a first razor As for the shaving soap and bursh you can get sets in most drug stores for around $10-15. good luck.

When I started, I bought 3 razors on Ebay. I used ONE of them after getting it honed. The others I PIF'd one and sold one. I then bought 2 from the classifieds here. THOSE are the two I now use. Matter of fact, using those two showed me what I like/want out of a straight and guided my next purchase. What I'm suggesting is this: find one in the classifieds that's in your budget. It'll come ready to shave. Learn with it and see what you like about it. You may end up loving the very first one you pick.

You are correct. I have been using a straight for over 15 years. Guess that I forgot that I started with razors that I found at garage sales very cheap. Actually my favorite was a Puma until the full hollow ground blade cracked. I was heartbroken.

Thanked: 20The soap and brush set at Wal-Mart are awesome. I bought the set and was impressed. The brush that comes in the set is real thick and made of badger hair, the soap is good quality, do highly recommend. The brand name is Van Der Hagen, go for it.
