Thanked: 0Ralf Aust or Boker
I own a Dovo best quality straight razor already. I am looking for to purchase a new razor.
What would be better Ralf Aust or Boker?
How would they compare to my Dovo?

It seems to me that the biggest obstacle is finding one to buy. I was interested in the Ralf Aust but there were so few to choose from and none of them were in a style I wanted. Boker supposedly makes a great razor but they only offer two models in a 6/8, neither seems readily available. The Elite is interesting but wow what a price tag. Since it looked like I was going to have to go right to the source, I opted foe a Revisor. Lots to choose from, square tip or round tip. There is a hell of a nice Boker in the classifieds today though. I'm not into 5/8 but it looks like a good buy to me.

Both Aust and Boker are good quality straight razor makers. Ralf Aust, of course, is a much smaller producer but does build a very nice product. As you know inventory in either brand is a bit difficult right now. If you like your Dovo I think you will find the Aust is very similar and is a fine razor. That being said, Boker straights have a very large following. If I was making this selection I would go for the Aust.

Thanked: 375I'd go with a Ralf Aust, the price point seems to be better plus you can get a Square or Spanish point. I'm probably wrong but I never see AS many new Dovo or Bokers with this option, always round, and more round points and then the price doubles if it is a Square point. This advice is probably worth nothing as I don't own a Ralf Aust myself, but I want one....... They seem to be priced reasonably vs. other brands and you have some option's with the point, now sizes I think you have two. But I think Ralf Aust might be offering a 7/8 soon or does have them I just haven't seen one for sale.

Ralf Aust with the Spanish point would be my choice, except I have one already. I'd say you can't go wrong whichever you choose but I favor the RA.

You can't factor in history with the Boker because the new ones are totally new production after they stopped making razors for so long. I would go with the Aust. it's a very nice razor. I have 2.

Ralf Aust for me too! It's a nice quality razor, and especially at the price. My daily shaver, right now, is the Aust 6/8 round point and backed up by the 6/8 Boker extra hollow. I have the 5/8 Aust also, but much prefer the 6/8.

Thanked: 375After a couple weeks of thinking about this, I pulled the trigger and a Ralf Aust 6/8 Spanish point is on it's way to me. This will be my first, new razor. I looked at the only two places I knew had them, and I was interested in the a 7/8 RA over the 6/8 but how do you justify an $87 difference for an 1/8 of an inch.........plus the 7/8 wasn't a Spanish point.
