    Default Replacement Scale

I have a Puma 18 with black scales with a blade width of aprox 6/8 wide and 4 7/8 to the pin. The scale that does not have the puma logo on it has a crack at the pivot. Anyone have or know where I could come up with a replacement. I want to keep the logo intact if possible. I have a Puma fake tortoise scales but it is to short. Any Ideas. If I found one that could be worked to the same size I might try that if all else failes.

I would talk to gssixgun, he is the guru of transferring those inlays

Transferring the nameplate has some limitations. I don't know (Glen likely would) if they can be transferred to another set of plastic/celluloid scales. They are removed by wiping the nameplate and surrounding scales with acetone or fingernail polish remover. In a few minutes, the acetone attacks the plastic. It gets gummy at first, then finally releases the nameplate and just wipes off. It probably transfers most easily to a scale material that will be finished w/ CA, being embedded in successive layers of glue. When I asked a while back, I was trying to xfer to a set of Ebony scales that would be finished in Tung oil. If I recall correctly, Glen said it wouldn't work well w/out the CA finish.

pink lather is right, CA or Epoxy would be the way to go. However, if the front scale is structurally sound, you could always find another black plastic or bakelite scale off of an old junker for next to nothing to match the front as close as possible.

The overlay can be transferred, indeed, but it can be done on scales that are not CA finished, one has to be careful about the execution though.

I have a Puma 18 that also had a busted scale in the same place http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...puma-18-a.html . I had Maxi make replica scales in horn and transfer the logo to the new horn scales http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...-8-8-puma.html . So that is at least one alternative for you to consider.

A few good ideas. The front side is good that has the logo. Would be perfect to find a back that was close and maybe be able to file, sand to shape. The transfer of logo to a completely different set would be OK if no other alternative. Thanks for all the thoughts guys.

It sounds like you just need to find some black plexi and make 1 back scale to match the front.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
