Toe on Pipe Razor
Hello gents, I need expert advice on the toe of a pipe razor I found at an antique store. Specifically, has the toe been ground or is that pretty much original? I will purchase this for my own use so I am more concerned if it will make a good shaver, not collector value. There is minimal rust on blade. Scales are broken, plastic, and not original. Sorry for the bad pics but lighting in store was bad. I will probably but it today if it has not been ground.

Thanked: 1371It was honed with more pressure at the toe. A lot of barbers honed their razors that way.
There is nothing that will prevent it from shaving well. Some people don't like the way they look with more wear at the toe, but that's personal preference.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I love that little kick up at the toe. Just hone it with a little swipe at the end, then it will shave just fine. I have a W&B Bow Razor with a toe like that, which shaves wonderfully.

Thanks again for the help, gentlemen. I went ahead and bought the razor. As I mentioned, there is minimal rust on the blade. The front scale was broke off at the pivot, and new holes were drilled. I am looking forward to getting it into shape. The lady at the antique store was amused when I showed her the original price per Manah's catalog photo.
