Thanked: 14Sheffield razors pre-"England"
From reading around, I understand that Sheffield razors were originally only marked "Sheffield", later changing to "Sheffield, England". But I've seen different suggestions of when the change happened.
Does anyone know if this is true, and when the change occurred?
The reason I ask is because I'm wondering how old this might be...
It's marked "Green & Green" and "_itre works, Sheffield" (which I presume is "Mitre Works").
Grateful for any ideas.

Green & Green, Sheffield - according to Steve Shackleford Blade's Guide - c.1893.
The owner of Grinder trademark (the razor stamp is very similar) was Herbert Robinson, Sheffield, according to Steve Shackleford Blade's Guide, was in business since c.1873. According to Tweedale's Directory, since c.1898.

Thanked: 14Thanks guys, that's really interesting. Here's a closer look at the tang...
If that really is the Herbert Robinson "Grinder" symbol (and it does look like it - I hadn't noticed the resemblance), then that makes it even more interesting because I also have this...
There's nothing on the tang of that one - just the engraving on the blade.
What makes this all quite exciting is that these are two out of seven razors my grandfather gave me more than 30 years ago, and if these two are pre-1891 then that predates him and they may well have been handed down from his father.

Herbert Robinson & Co. was in business till about 1941. By 1941, Robinson was at Canton Works in Rockingham Street, but no listing can be found after that date.
