Gold Dachs Straight Razor?
I was in my local habedashery/tobacco store yesterday looking at their freshly stocked wares. They had a couple of straight razors labeled Gold Dachs. Does anyone know if Gold Dachs makes razors, and if they are made in Germany? The blade had the Gold Dachs name, a badger, and Solingen but there was no information stamped on the tang so I was kind of suspicious. The razor resembled a Dovo Best Quality; I am wondering if they are re-branded like Art of Shaving or Col. Conk razors.

I later talked to the store owner. For what it is worth, they said the Gold Dachs razors they carried were made by the same company that made Merkur double edge razors. I think I read somewhere that Dovo and Merkur are the same company.

Thanked: 3228It is very hard to determine who makes house brands like Gold Dachs, just like nobody can say with much certainty who made DDs. Given what Martin has just said and that there are few current manufacturers in Solingen with the enough capacity to produce house brands in addition to their own, Dovo seems highly likely to me.

If Gold Dachs is as fussy about their straight razors as they are their shaving soap it should be a nice straight.

Thanked: 0Got my first!
Got my first straight today, it was given to me by a friend of a friend of mine that never followed through on straight shaving it is a Gold Dach, hence why I was also curious about the brand. It's nothing fancy, but it's carbon steel and the price was right(free) it is farrr from shave ready by any means. Looks like the set up of the bevel was never finished. I've been talking to Brooksie via email, and hopefully we will get to hang out soon and do some honeing(well I get to watch and learn on this one) none the less I'm stoked. Thanks for giving me some insight on the brand.

Thanked: 3228That Gold Dachs doesn't look too shabby at all and should hone up nice if Brooksie has anything to with it. I think you lucked out both ways. Have fun.

Thanked: 12I have had a GoldDachs for a few months. No where near shave ready but a little time on the hones and it shaves just fine. Not a bad buy especially if you hone your own.
