    Default Sylvie & Wagner razor

i purchased a new razor today. it is a SYLVIE & WAGNER razor, or so it is stamped on the blade. its in fair to good condition, though it is definitely not shave ready. i was wondering if anyone can give me information on this razor as i have never heard of this brand before. it states...SYLVIE & WAGNER 450 GRAND ST. N.Y. M.I. SOLINGEN GERMANY other side ORLANDO. any information would be great! i paid 22.00dollars for it.

Sylvie & Wagner was probably a hardware dealer, cutlery distributor, barber supply house, or similar business now long forgotten. They bought inexpensive razors from a German manufacture and had their name stamped on the tang for resale to the public. There were thousands of these small businesses who sold razors like this. There is no way of knowing what company made the razor or what their standards of quality were. Although, if it is stamped Solingen it is made to a higher standard than most razors made in other parts of Germany at this time. Which was probably between the World Wars.
