Thanked: 3227Info request on Begonia Solingen razor
Trying to track down the maker of this razor if possible. All that is stamped on the razor's tang is Bohler Extra and Solingen on one side and nothing on the other. It came in a coffin in very nice condition that has Begonia and Solingen printed on it. The only thing I came up with on a search was Karl Bremsley & Co. Nachf. as the owners of the brand name Bohler-Stahl. Nothing came up regarding Begonia regarding Straight razors and I went cross eyed trying to find it in the list of Solingen razor makers. Any help would be appreciated by a PC search inept person.

Thanked: 3227Thank you. You can't see it but the show side scale has a warp that needs fixing, blade has some surface rust and needs a cleaning and then there is honing. I think it has potential though.

Wonderful-looking razor, very elegant scales. Your inlay on the show scale is very likely the culprit regarding the warpage. Good luck with that, in my experience it's pretty much permanent. I've had some luck dunking them in hot water and trying to form them straight, but I'm pretty sure it's not worth the risk.
Someday I want to try an eyeglass frame warmer. I tried a heat gun once -- the results were spectacularly bad -- celluloid really dissolves into flames in a hurry.

Thanked: 4249Bob, thats a good looking razor, scales are pretty nice as well, to bad about the warp, but its fixable. Bohler steel more then likely, definately a high quality razor.
As far as the maker of this razor, to bad its not correctly marked, but that said there the box with the Begonia, Solingen. I came across a couple of Begonia marked razors and DE blades but it seems that just a trademark without a manufacturer listed.
Perhaps somebody will recognize one of them, the close up picture of the tang shows some spine work and gold wash with some kind of emblem. But that one is pretty common as well.

You are spot on about the warp, it is right where the scale inlay is. I have decided to live with it for now and see how it shaves first. When I try to fix the word I'll keep your advice and experience in mind.

I was afraid it was going to turn out to be a wild goose chase to track down the manufacturer and will have to settle for generic Solingen razor. The Bohler steel was one of the main reasons I picked it up. I don't have a razor in that particular steel and had heard good things about it from when I had guns. I just honed it up and it took a nice narrow bevel with one layer of tape. Tomorrow will tell the tale of the Bohler steel and my honing when I use it for my SOTD. Fingers crossed.

Thanked: 3227OK, she shaves like a charm as in close and comfortable. Enjoyed honing it, that Bohler steel is nice.

Update
After exchanging PMs, it seems impossible to determine the manufacturer without the stamp. My best guess is that because it has no makers mark or country of origin that it was made for domestic consumption as what we refer to today as a “No Name” product. It is pretty darn good for that class of product.
