This is all just speculative and not really researched, but I've noticed that an inordinate number of Bengals turn up in auctions and sales in Sweden (razors manufactured by Bengal in particular). In Swedish nouns an -en ending can mean a definite noun such as "the Bengal", if that is the case here (Swedish grammar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Again, just speculation.

But the proper trademark is Bengall - note that it has two l's in it, not one like in the pic above.

I have seen plenty of Bengalls from Sweden, as well as a lot of other old Sheffield razors - they appreciate good steel seeing as their ore went into most of it, and none have the makers mark adulturated, not even in swedish adverts from the time.

It's a bit ofa mystery that someone swedish like Magnus or Mikael might be able to explain.

    Regards,
    Neil
