Whipped Dog sight unseen question
Hi all,
I'm looking to get my first straight. I'm leaning to a ~$40 sight unseen from WD. My question is this:
WD says the razor is ready to shave. My reading on SRP tells me the RTS is a dicey affair, with some(maybe only a few) actually being RTS.
So, are WD's straights actually RTS?
Thanks all. Great site, btw.

Larry does an excellent job honing. I have a few of mine honed by him.

Thanked: 1184They may be butt ugly but don't sneeze when your shaving or you may have 1 ear or 3 nostrils.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Glad I wasn't doing anything serious when I read that.
OP- If you're looking for your first straight and are looking for an inexpensive option and ready to jump in, Whipped Dog should be ok. If you have some time to pick something out, I recommend you check the classifieds here until you run across something that looks good. Also, if you have a few more bucks and wander over to SRD you can get a brand new, honed razor with another honing included. Look around, those are only 3 options and there is a rainbow of choices out there. Good luck and enjoy!

Thanked: 13Larry does a great job honing them. Uses a coti I believe. Once in a great while one goes out that's subpar but the few times I've heard of that happening, if the customer writes him, he'll rehone it. You're out the postage, but he does take care of his customers.

Thanked: 177I can only speak from the blade I received and it wasn't on a coti. High polished edge that looks like a 12k edge like a naniwa.

I bought the $28 sight unseen with blemishes from Whippeddog. It has a one piece plastic scale, and the razor itself has patina and isnt polished-except for the edge! I have been shaving with it for almost a month now- no problems with the shave with the exception of newbie operator errors. If you want a good shaver that truly is shave ready- whippeddog is the way to go.
