How is it honed? Was it finished with diamond? Just asking.

Hey - PM'd you back, don't know whether the pic went through. Was meant in tongue in cheek, that Le Grelot is worth far more...

I've found that on my beard full hollow grinds are more likely to dig in than wedges and heavy grinds. The weight of the razor is less likely to get hung up if your angle is off. I shave with both but I do have a preference for a heavier grind. However, the one Le Grelot that I have is a truly magnificent shaver. It's not as pretty as the one you have but it shaves very well. Take a little more time to get to know one another. You don't want to pass up on a razor like that one too soon.

I don't know Phil's honing method. I'm going to email them and ask. I've heard nothing but high praise for his edges though. Like I said, it's prob just me not being used to the razor.

Agreed bryan - Phil does a superb job, everything I've got from him is excellent. As a matter of fact, just sent the W&B Wedge off to him....

Many member on this board speak highly of his work.

Not to worry if it is honed by others then it will probably not be an issue. That would be something that an owner would do. I have found while full hollows that have been finished by diamonds, unless extremely fine, have a real tendency to be "toothy" and will cause a slice or cut very easily.

    Take care,

I was thinking of taking it to some CrOx to see if it would mellow the edge a little. But this is the first razor I've bought In a while that was honed by someone else. I usually go the 4k/8k then a 12k natural, CrOx on balsa, linen or felt, then leather. I just wanted to give the professional edge a chance before I changed it.

That is wise. Assuming that you know the ins and outs of stropping give the edge a chance to mellow out. May be that this razor is just properly honed and you need to learn a bit more from the shaving school of hard knocks!
