Thread: Do I have too many?

Well after just counting I’m at 18 that’s down from 25+. Everything I have falls into three categories;
1: Razors that I’ve purchased and love to use. (All are in my rotation).
2: Razors that are heirlooms and I will never sell (Both are in my rotation).
3: Razors that were gifts and will never be sold! (Most are in my rotation).
The reason that I’m down to 18 is because I’ve never ever sold a razor, I’ve given them to those who I’ve tried to help get started in this wonderful art! I’ve given anything from a near new DOVO 5/8 to a shortened 13/16 Friodur in custom scales. All the razors I’ve given away were purchased by me! Some were given to help a member out who was in need of funds to purchase a more suitable razor for their preference or beard.
I’m happy with what I have but if something comes along that I think that I might like, I may pick it up. If I find I don’t prefer it, it will eventually be sent along to help someone trying to learn this Ancient Art!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I have many razors (probably 250-300 and trying to get down to few), sold even more, coming EVEN more of purchased (not sure even why I bought them, I guess it is RAD) and I mostly shave with one old french razor, I try to shave with different razors from collection too but this one is my fav and nothing can beat it yet... so it is up to you but if you have too many you might never shave with them as with time you will be coming back to fav razor anyway. Recently I have give away 10-15 razors which I have purchased... I have two 7 days sets, both NOS and I even didn`t hone them yet and I think I will keep them for my sons. What I want to say is that if you will find few right/perfect fit razors for you then the rest will not matter anymore...

Thanked: 2284I have 26 razors now and 80% of them have been purchased at antique stores, a few from local classified adds, and 2 from ebay that I had to have. My wife had no idea how many I actually had until I laid them out one day to take a pic of. Of course this sparked a " you need to sell some of those." Was she right??? maybe I could part with a few. The thing is, How can I walk by razors In fabulous shape, with a price marked the same as a meal at Mcdonalds????? I can't!!! I feel these razors want to find me. Almost like they want to be rescued and be shaving again.
I love the hunt at antique stores. The feeling I get when I spot one is intoxicating. I doubt I'll ever stop my antique store hunts. The day I find a boxed Escher I may scream out loud like a little school girl, and I wont care if people are staring at me. I'll take that thing to the cashier like a proud dad, with his newborn baby!!Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 09-06-2013 at 10:17 AM.

Thanked: 14For years I've had the 7 my grandfather gave me, and I only used them occasionally - until they got beyond stropping and needed honing.
But since I decided to learn honing, I've picked up some cheapies from eBay to learn on (plus a Chinese one that must not be named, for the challenge). That's another 7 - I don't know how many of them I'll keep.
I also decided I wanted a couple of new razors, so I've bought a TI and a Revisor, bringing my total to 16.
And I don't really feel the urge for any more -- though I might carry on occasionally picking up eBay ones for honing practice, and pass them on when they're done.
For actual use, it'll be mainly the TI and Revisor, plus a few favourites out of my Granddad's.

Thanked: 105Never too many unless you don't have time to hone them all.

I got to stop some day but I keep looking and finding and buying. Is this RAD?
