Thanked: 0Help!?
Hey, My name is Autumn.
My father passed away last year and collected straight razor. I am trying to sell them but have no idea what they are worth.
I have a book, Standard Guide to Razors 3rd Ed , but its like another language to me.
I would be very grateful to anyone willing to help me figure out collectible value on these so i can sell them. There are quite a few, about half of them are Red Point and a variety of others.
Thanks

Hi Autumn... So sorry to hear about your Father! From the amount of razors in your picture he was truly an avid collector. It is against Forum Rules to give monetary appraisals for razors.
Do you know if your Father was active on any of the Razor Forums on the Internet? If so, posting with his specific Nic/Handle may get you closer to someone that knows him and is still active Online with Razors/Shaving. A friend of his like that would likely be your best bet as they could both help you determine approximate value in real time as well as help you post on eBay which is likely your best resource. I believe eBay has a FREE Summer Is Over thing going on where you can post up to 500 items without fees so you could post the razors (.. assuming you are wanting to sell that is..) and get them moved on and liquidated the easiest way possible.
Your Profile does not indicate your location... You could also post that information here and that would allow a Member who may be close to your location the opportunity to contact you and possibly help out in real time.
What I can tell you about those razors is that piling them like that can damage them by either dulling/chipping the blades or possibly scratching/breaking the handles (scales)... You should wrap each one individually in some type of paper (newspaper probably would not be best as the ink could transfer onto the razors) and put them in a plastic bin and keep them safe and dry. You would not want to find out wonderful news about the value of razors like this only to find that you've damaged them enough to affect that information.
I can also tell you that if you go onto eBay and simply type in "Red Point Razor" that it will come up with the current online auctions... Some will be 'Buy It Now' meaning the person is selling only at that price... And, some will be Auction style where people bid through a certain time period and then the item sells. Note, many of these auctions have a flurry within the last 20 seconds or so... That means you'd need to watch one until the very end to get an idea of value. By finding each of the types of razors in your Father's collection and putting them into a search on eBay you could add them to the Watch List and wait for the auction to end then review the prices paid to get an estimate of value.
If you are near a bigger city that has an Auction House that may be another resource... But, if it is an unknown place to you or a lesser known in general it may be better to contact someone your Father may have known or interacted with personally.
I wish you the best of luck and, again, my condolences on the passing of your Father! Please post a few more details like your location so people here may be able to more easily help you.
Shawn

Thanked: 0Thank you so much for the information! I think eBay is the best way to go, that is where he acquired most of these. Its just a bit over welling seeing off of them and not knowing where to start. Its gonna take time and patience.

My condolences on your loss. You may want to put aside a choice few for future generations to enjoy, maybe even a significant other. Nothing means so much as something with family history.
MattThe older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

That is quite the collection!
I would maybe take a couple and put them away for your sons or your children's children.
Sorry for your loss...
